How fast can a Canadian get a TN visa?
Canadian citizens can apply directly at a U.S. port of entry or pre-clearance airport and receive a decision the same day — no petition or consulate appointment required. The real timeline is the preparation: a well-documented application typically takes one to two weeks to assemble properly.
What occupations qualify for TN status?
The USMCA lists roughly 60 professions, including engineers, computer systems analysts, accountants, management consultants, scientists, teachers (college/university), and many medical roles. Each has specific degree or license requirements. If your title isn't a clean match, classification strategy decides the case — that's the core of what we do.
Can I apply for TN with a three-year Canadian degree or without a degree?
Sometimes. Several occupations accept alternative credentials — for example, Management Consultant allows five years of relevant experience in place of a degree, and Scientific Technician/Technologist has its own standard. These cases are more scrutinized and benefit most from legal preparation.
What happens if I'm refused at the border?
You're sent back the same day, the refusal is recorded, and future applications face more scrutiny. A refusal is not a ban — most refused applicants can reapply with a corrected package. If you've been refused, don't retry with the same documents; have the file reviewed first.
How long does TN status last, and can I renew it?
TN status is granted for up to three years at a time and can be renewed indefinitely in three-year increments, as long as the professional role and your qualifications continue. Renewals can be done at the border or by mail through USCIS.
Can TN lead to a green card?
TN is a non-immigrant status without dual intent, so pursuing permanent residence while on TN requires careful sequencing — commonly through employer sponsorship (PERM) or self-petitions like EB-2 NIW. If a green card is the long-term goal, we plan the transition so a pending case doesn't jeopardize your TN entries.
